John Evans Obituary



EVANS JOHN RHYS EVANS John R. Evans, a loving husband, dad, and friend, passed away in his home on January 2, 2010 of natural causes. John Evans was born in Wales, and was a professional opera singer and rugby player. He studied music in London at the Royal Academy of Music and the Guild Hall School of Music, and at the Munich University in Germany. At the request of the Queen of England, he sang at the Investiture of The Prince of Wales. John Evans was an opera singer who performed throughout the world, including at Covent Garden, the Old Vic Theatre, and most recently the Washington Opera House and Wolf Trap Center for the Performing Arts. He also worked at the British and Australian Embassies. John Evans will be forever missed by his devoted wife Marika; his children Beck, Liz, Isaac, Jenny, Vivian, and Gareth; his sons-in-law Scott, Stanley, and DeWitt; daughter-in-law Jennifer, his grandchildren Niall, Allan, and Gwen; and many other devoted family members and friends. A memorial service will be held at the Strasburg Presbyterian Church on Saturday, January 9 at 1:00 pm; address: 325 S. Holliday Street, Strasburg, VA 22657. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of John R. Evans to the American Heart Association or the American Guild of Musical Artists Relief Fund.
