Kathleen Redpath Beal (Age 82)
The family of Kathleen Redpath Beal announces her death, after a brief illness, at her home in Bethesda, Maryland on April 12, 2022. She was 82 and was surrounded by her family, as well as the priest who officiated at her marriage 57 years ago. Born in 1940 in St. Paul, Minnesota, Kathy is preceded in death by her parents, Alan and Alice Redpath and her brother, Peter Alan Redpath. She leaves behind her loving husband, Edward "Ted" W. Beal; a sister, Alice Ann Redpath; children Alan Andrew Beal (Susan Gray), Amy Rebecca Beal (Matthew Gillman) and Maryalice Kathleen Beal. She has three grandchildren: Jason and Ryan Beal and Graham Gillman. The family will greet friends at a wake in Blessed Sacrament Church 3630 Quesada Street, NW, Washington, DC on Thursday, April 21, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. On Friday, April 22, 2022 a memorial Mass will be held at Blessed Sacrament Church at 11 a.m., followed immediately by a reception. How is it you´ve left us and not a day goes by that I don´t think of you because your picture is on my IPhone. How I miss your smile, laughter, memories of Minnesota, recent stories of the soup kitchen and Jim Shore figurines. Ted and Mal and Allan have lost the light of their lives but we all know you are in a better place, probably serving in God´s own soup kitchen.

I still haven´t recovered from the passing of Kathy because she and I struggled through our gerontology Master´s degrees from George Washington University in the `80´s, amassed multiple parking tickets as we commuted to classes there, and sat through many sessions studying public policy (totally worthless) while spending a total of ten minutes discussing Alzheimer´s. She went on to become an interior decorator while I spent my career as a high school English teacher and we kicked ourselves for years after that we never opened up a home health care business. We could have become rich. Her sense of humor, her concern for those less fortunate, and her years as a nun endured so many to her. Plus she had a sense of style, loved her hats, worshipped her husband and children, and to this day, I wonder why God took her home so early but perhaps he needed a true saint to look after the homeless, the needy, the elderly, and the forgotten. Besides, she knew how to run a soup kitchen well! I love and miss her so much!

I remember Kathy and Ted´s wedding at the beautiful cathedral in Philadehia,and the fun evenings with Kathy at McGillin´s Ale House in Philadelphia while Ted was on call at Hahnemann. A wonderful lady with a great sense of humor.
