Wallace Warfield Obituary



WARFIELD WALLACE P. WARFIELD International scholar and practitioner of conflict resolution, Wallace P. Warfield, Ph.D. died August 21, 2010 in Silver Spring, MD. A native New Yorker, Dr. Warfield began his career as a street-gang worker in the 1960s. From 1968 to 1988 he worked for the Community Relations Service Department of Justice, first as a community mediator and finally as Acting Director. As Distinguished Visiting Fellow at the Administrative Conference of the United States, he built ADR processes in federal government agencies. A professor at George Mason University since 1990, Dr. Warfield taught, advised and mentored undergraduate, masters and doctoral students. He was the author of numerous publications on conflict resolution and a master mediator. Dr. Warfield is survived by his daughter, Anjua Maximo; son-in-law Zosimo Maximo; grandson Julius Wallace Maximo of Shaker Heights, OH; his partner, Alicia Pfund of Silver Spring, MD; a brother, Arthur Pinn Warfield of Las Vegas, NV; a sister, Vivian Millicent Warfield of Queens, NY; nieces Kim Warfield and Laila Warfield Keith of Los Angeles, CA; nephew Maliq Warfield of San Diego, CA; paternal uncle Harold Warfield and numerous cousins. A memorial tribute will be held on Saturday, August 28, 2010 in Virginia. In honor of his work, the Wallace Warfield Scholarship for Practice has been established to support students interested in building expertise in the practice of Conflict Analysis and Resolution. In 1957 as a Freshman at Howard University, Wally Warfield was the coolest guy I had ever seen. He had a cool, gliding walk and and a very hip style. He was, in my mind, the epitome of NYC sophistication.
