WILLIAM BARTLETT Obituary

WILLIAM M. BARTLETT
William Mayhew Bartlett, 83, a DC resident from 1959 to 2011, died peacefully in his sleep on May 1, 2013, in New Brunswick, NJ. Born in 1930 in New Haven, CT, to Russell Sturgis Bartlett and Emilie Daggett Bartlett, Bill served in the US Navy during the Korean War before going on to study at the University of Bridgeport, graduating with an accounting degree in 1957. Bill moved to the DC area in the late 1950s to work for JW Marriott, where he met Mary Ellen Barton, whom he married in 1961 (and who predeceased Bill in 1998). In the mid-1960s Bill obtained his Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) certification and began a long career as an executive with the National Association of Life Underwriters. He was also active in the Jaycees, the DC Republican Party, the Masons, and St. Alban's Episcopal Church. Bill is survived by his sister, Professor Beatrice Bartlett of New Haven, CT, his five children: Sharon Sage and Rodanne Bartlett of Pittsburgh, PA, Martha Ann Rountree Paris of Germantown, MD, Mary-Ellen Yeomans (John) of Toronto, Canada, and Russell Bartlett (Kim) of Bound Brook, NJ, and by six grandchildren. A memorial service for Bill will be held on Saturday, May 11, 3 p.m. at St. Alban's Episcopal Church, 3001 Wisconsin Ave., NW, Washington, DC. The family asks that donations be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children in lieu of flowers.
