I am thinking of you, Marsha, Kate and Mark. Earlier this summer I went back to Caesarea and the place was full of memories of Ken. I wondered what he would have thought about the many new developments. It still seems unbelievable that we will not be able to debate our final conclusions about the promontory palace with him, or to sit in Dvorah's garden over a lovely meal, or plan a Caesarea session at ASOR. My mother was often with me in the later years of digging at Caesarea, with Noah. She died last year just after Ken. Such a year of loss and reflection about lives so we'll lived with us.

Ken was friend and colleague (of things Byzantine) whose presence I always enjoyed and deeply appreciated. His research and teaching I much admired. He had many friends, and, of course, a lovely family to whom express my deepest and heartfelt condolences.

Carol and I express our sincere condolences to Marsha and the family. Carol and I often talk about the cruise that we all took to the Synagogues in the Caribbean, and fondly remember the great lectures you both gave to enhance the cruise.

This is Melanie Michaelson, Mark's first babysitter. I am so sorry for the loss of Dr. Holum. There are just no words to express my sorrow. When I lost my beloved mother 5 years ago Hospice gave me the only advice I ever pass on, you will get through this not over it. Your family and the University of Maryland family has lost a great man and an amazing professor.

Among Ken's many contributions to religious services, teaching, archaeology, and other aspects of our community, let us not forgot that he once introduced lutefisk into the annual Latke-Hamentasch Debate. He will be deeply and widely missed.
