Gongoll III, William F.

William "Bill" F. Gongoll III, 58, Wausau, passed away on Monday, January 25, 2016 at Mount View Nursing Home, under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services.

He was born March 27, 1957 in Red Wing, Minnesota, son of the late William F. and Geraldine (Haustein) Gongoll II. On July 22, 1995, he married Katy Key in Manassas, Virginia. Bill graduated from Wausau East High School in 1975.

He was a veteran of the United States Navy, retiring in 1996 after 18 years of service to his country. He was a member of the American Legion Montgomery Plant Post No. 10, Wausau. In 1996, he went back to school, earning his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Accounting from Upper Iowa University. Bill worked for Webko in Wausau as an accountant for 15 years until his retirement in August of 2015.

He was an avid fan of the Milwaukee Brewers and the Wisconsin Badgers. He had a crew of four that went to Brewers opening day every year since 2002. For closing day, Bill began going with a small group that grew to over 30 people known as "Billy's Bunch", and then started renting a U-Haul to attend closing day.

Bill was an umpire for the State Amateur Softball Association for 25 years at both state and national tournaments and was selected as the State Umpire of the Year in 2003. He also enjoyed playing softball and bowling. For 14 years, Bill enjoyed taking teams to National bowling competitions.

Survivors include, his loving wife of 20 years, Katy Gongoll, Wausau, one daughter, Amy Anderson, Wausau; one son, William F. Gongoll IV, Wausau; one grandson, William F. Gongoll V, Michigan; four siblings, Mary (Mark) Dearth, Arizona, Patti (Gary Pagel) Jensen, Appleton, Tim (Judy) Gongoll, DePere and Barbara "Barbi" (Eric) Mogensen, Milwaukee; and many nieces and nephews.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 5, 2016 at the Church of St. Anne, Wausau. Rev. Alan T. Burkhardt will preside. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau, with full military honors conducted by the American Legion Wausau. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau and again on Friday from 10:00 a.m. at the church until time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Katy or Amy to be donated to Relay For Life and the American Cancer Society.

Katy and Amy would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services and the staff at Mount View Nursing Home, especially the Southern Reflections Unit, for the outstanding care and support you gave to Bill during his stay.
