Richard Tournear Obituary

Richard D. Tournear, 79, of Atkinson died Thursday (July 24, 2008) in Forest Hills Health and Rehab Center in East Moline. Richard was born Jan. 24, 1929, in Liberty, the son of Clem F. and Valinda E. Beckman Tournear. He received his education in Quincy and married Jeannene DePauw on July 31, 1980, in Moline. He worked for Electric Wheel and also drove a city bus in Quincy. He then worked for Burlington Railroad as a bridge and building carpenter and drove the company truck for 37 years until retiring in 1991. He enjoyed watching boxing matches, playing horseshoes and his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Jeannene; a daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Ted Glore of Quincy; a son and daughter-in-law, David and Rosie Tournear of Carbon Cliff; two stepdaughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Kenny Rogers of Frankfort, Ind., and Gail and Donald Buchanan of Davenport, Iowa; two stepsons and a daughter-in-law, Bryan Rusk of Geneseo and Merle and Merilee Gilbert of East Moline; 11 grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. Also surviving are a sister, Beulah Peters of Coatsburg; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Loren and Georgeanne Tournear of Liberty and Lawrence "Gene" Tournear of Quincy; and an aunt and uncle, Darlene and Gene Beckman of Coralville, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother. SERVICES: Memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the Geneseo Chapel of Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services, 225 E. Park St., Geneseo. Deacon Harley Chaffee will officiate. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens in East Moline. VISITATION: One hour prior to the service in the funeral home.
