Uncle Phil, to me you will always be the epitome of wit and wisdom! I enjoyed all the times we spent together going through Salem State yearbooks, laughing at family photo albums, and learning about your Lanterns, Buffalo Pottery and the Larkin Soap Company. I'll never forget your sweet singing voice or mischievous laugh. Thank you for all your words of encouragement through the years, and for letting us get doughnuts BEFORE Mass on Sundays!

Dear Carolyn: Alice and Roy send you our condolences on the passing of Phil. Having worked with Phil for so many years and enjoyed his company it is a big loss for us all. I see that he never got away from collecting and certainly had many interest. It seems long ago and yet not so long ago that you dad, Phil and I were at the Bank. I see Ed Ellison at St. Bartholomew in Needham and will keep up to date. Much love, Alice and Roy Kelley

Deepest condolences on the loss of a very wonderful person. I knew Phil and all the Sullivan boys in their early days in Topsfield, when they came here as grade and high schoolers. I remember Phil as quiet and unassuming, and a member of a wonderful family. What an accomplished person he became, and how proud you must be to have had him in your midst His loss is a great one, but he will always be in your hearts through the legacy of precious memories he has left. May you find comfort in them.My thoughts and prayers are with you and yours.

For my Uncle Phil:

As a little girl, you and Auntie encouraged me to read
You were right when you told me it would help me succeed
When I was older and had the budget of a mouse
You told me "don't worry about furniture, just buy the house"
When we walked together at flea markets, fairs and shows
You always said "look for quality, and your investment will grow"
Your wit, your will and your determination did not wear
Even with the lousy disease that we share
And although I will miss you for a long, long while
I'm sending my love to you with a "raggedy" smile

Love, your niece and goddaughter, Patty

To the Sullivan Family

Phil is and will always be special to our family (Leach/Markou/Volpe). We were so happy when he came back into our life by ordering candy bar covers for his granddaughter and the Marine Ball six years ago. Phil and I would go back and forth on the phone making corrections, additions, tweaking, until they were just right. Then we would traditionally meet somewhere for lunch and the bars would get handed over to Phil. Carolyn was always his right and left hand person helping make the event special. Those years will be treasured and we will miss that special tradition. He definitely made his mark in this world.

Love,
Sandy Volpe (and Dennis)

Dear Uncle Phil,

We will all miss your gentle eyes and strong heart, your fabulous singing voice and your tremendous sense of humor.

In particular, I will miss your wise and prudent advice. I have some many happy memories with you, Auntie Carolyn, the awesome Andrea and the incredible Phillip. The flea markets, the Dunkin Donut coffe stops, cleaning the pepsi cans out of the van, the New Year's Day Triple Pier shows, loading the van with precious antiques, changing the words at Mass (and making us all laugh) - the antique journeys, the studying, the purchasing and the teaching to others your wealth of knowledge and love for Buffalo Pottery and Marine Lanterns.

You are one of the last of our contry's greatest national assets...a true soldier, a devoted husband, a loving father, a friendly uncle, a brilliant businessman, a wise mentor, a great friend and a leader. A leader who led by example. "Well done my good and trusted servent...well done !"

Godspeed Uncle Phil. I hope you sneak through the gates of heaven before the devil finds out your gone. I am wondering if the food in heaven is served on Buffalo...wouldn't that be perfect !

We love you. May God bless you and keep you.

Dear Aunt Carolyn, Phil, Andrea, Tom and beautiful children,

Our love is with you all during this sad time. Kate and I will see you soon.

I was stunned when I saw the e-mail announcing the passing away of your husband and father. He was so lively and I will never forget his twinkling eyes. I am grateful for the time I spent with him, especially the summers on Cape Cod (he was my knight in shining armor when my luggage didn't arrive).

My prayers are with you and love to you and your entire family,

Dear Aunt Carol & Cousins Phil, Andrea, & Family:

I am so sorry to hear about Uncle Phil.
I thought of him so often when I was attending an estate sale or collecting my antiques. I told him we must have been related by blood to both have the collecting bug so acutely.
I will remember him always and he will have a sweet place in my heart.

FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF MASSACHUSETTS MARINE CORPS LEAGUE

Please accept our deepest regrets and condolences on the passing of Marine Veteran Phillip Sullivan.
There is a poem written by a Marine in the Korean War.
It goes like this,

Do not stand by my grave and weep …
I am not there; I do not sleep.
When you awaken in the morning's hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush of quiet birds circling in flight.
Do not stand by my grave and cry ...
I am not there. I did not die.
I am a Marine now and always
protecting and serving our
Supreme Father into infinity.

Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal.
