We are losing our WWII veterans quickly now. They are such wonderful people who served our country during a very difficult time. I did not know Harold personally, but I do have one of his books that he graciously sent me a few years ago about his time in the service. It is special to me in so many ways. Harold certainly was an exceptional man, and another great hero lost to us to eternity. May his memory live on not only in his family but in the hearts of each one of us who got to know him through his writings. I am so sorry he is gone but our loss is certainly heaven's gain. Rest in peace my gentle hero.

I am sorry that I have just learned of Harold's passing. He and I corresponded about our shared family histories for many years but never met in person. My last correspondence was earlier this year about attendance at a Simms family reunion in Newfoundland in 2019. I will miss our correspondence and regret never having gotten the chance to meet. Deepest condolences to all of family.

To Harold's Family,
I am just hearing of Harold's death.....too late to be with you and share my gratitude for the few occasions Harold and I spent together. Perhaps the highlight was our race together with Skip Crocker a few years back. Harold remembered working on the deck of Tyrone when he was fourteen. He gave me the understanding of the fine relationship between his father and Sam Crocker. He gave me documents about Tyrone's history, all with a keen understanding of the sense of the boat. And of course, there was his book about his father, his uncle, and the yard. I am saddened by the end of what had to have been a great life and legacy, but remain very grateful for the fullness he has given me in our relationship.

To all of Harold's loved ones,
I knew him best for the years he spent on the school committee. He was a very dedicated, hard-working, caring man.
His obituary allowed me a chance to know of the many wonderful things he accomplished in his life. I am so sorry I was not able to attend the wake and funeral. Know that you all are in my thoughts and prayers.
Thinking of you in your loss,

We got to meet and know Harold thru Sunday morning breakfasts at "Fitzy's". We have tremendous respect for his time in the service during WWII (as "The Last Bugler"), and enjoyed sharing his stories of family and personal experiences in Dorchester, Braintree, Marshfield, and Arizona. He was sharp as a tack and had a great sense of humor. We really enjoyed his company. We will truly miss him!
