PEMBROKE – Thomas Joseph Provost Sr., 84, of Pembroke, NH, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at the Granite VNA Hospice House in Concord.

Born on August 7, 1941, in Agawam, MA, he was the son of the late Wallace Harold and Celestine Margaret (Morrison) Provost.

Tom grew up in Feeding Hills, MA, and graduated from Agawam High School, where he was an active member of the chess and drama clubs. He went on to earn his degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in June 1964. He later built a distinguished 32-year career as a staff member at MIT's Laboratory for Nuclear Science (LNS), specifically associated with the MIT-Bates Linear Accelerator Center in Middleton, MA, serving as Group Leader for Data Acquisition. Throughout his professional life, he was deeply involved with DECUS (Digital Equipment Users' Society), serving on its Board of Directors and, in March 1988, being named Vice President of a Special Interest Group focused on data acquisition. He retired from MIT in 1996.

Tom was an Eagle Scout and later served as a leader of Scout Troop 91 in Newton, NH, sharing his love of the outdoors and service with generations of scouts. A rated chess player, he competed in tournaments across New Hampshire and Massachusetts for decades. He was a Life Master bridge player, an avid puzzler from jigsaw to crossword, and a voracious reader.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his third wife, Susan B. Hill, in 1999; as well as three brothers; and two sisters.

Tom is survived by his wife of 21 years, Kirsten Hale Provost; his children, Thea Prostko of Northampton, PA, Kristen Rosenau of Savoy, MA, Tanya Lamb of Paris, TX, William Rosenau of Wautoma, WI, Francine Reilly of Ashburnham, MA, Thomas Provost Jr. of San Antonio, TX, and Michael Provost of Advance, NC; twelve loving grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers; and three sisters.
