Stephen Rumsey Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Messinger Mortuaries-Fountain Hills Mortuary on Feb. 22, 2026.
Stephen (Steve) Rumsey of Fountain Hills, Arizona, passed away February 7, 2026, at age 73. He was born on September 3, 1952, in Cortland, New York. He is survived by Stephanie (Babboni), his wife of more than 50 years, his son, Marc, his sister, Lorene (Tom) Magne, and numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, great nieces, one great nephew, and his dog, Emma.

Steve graduated from General Motors Institute (now Kettering University) with a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering. Steve also obtained a Master's of Science (mechanical engineering) from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a Master's in Business Administration from the University of Rochester. He was employed in the product industry for more than 42 years, first at General Motors, then Eastman Kodak Company (Kodak) and later at Flextronics International (Flex). Steve was General Manager, Engineering and Manufacturing, Digital Cameras at Kodak and Vice President of Engineering and Manufacturing at Flex. He was a mentor to numerous colleagues and family members.

Steve's career took him all over the world; he lived in Michigan; New York; California; Tokyo, Japan; and Arizona. He was responsible for factories in the United States, France, Mexico, and China; and led engineering organizations in the US, Japan, and Malaysia. Steve retired in 2013, traveled some, and enjoyed every moment with his family and friends.

After Steve retired, he authored books on single use cameras and his family genealogy. He loved golf, cars, listening to music, reading, playing games, and watching football. Even in the last months of his life, he could still beat everyone at cards.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix, Arizona, 85014.
