Robert A. Hansen

Rev. Robert Anton Hansen died peacefully on February 14, 2026, at Atria Woodbriar in Falmouth, surrounded by family, just weeks before his 95th birthday. A longtime Falmouth resident and pastor of Falmouth Baptist Church, Rev. Hansen was born in Braintree, Massachusetts, on March 17, 1931, to Hilding and Elsie Hansen.

He graduated from Braintree High School and studied chemical engineering for three years at Northeastern University before feeling called to Christian ministry. He earned a Bachelor's degree in English literature from Gordon College and a Master of Divinity degree from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in 1956. That same year, he married Evelyn West, was ordained to the ministry, and began serving as pastor of his first full-time church in St. Johnsbury, Vermont.

In 1958, he moved to Falmouth to become pastor of Falmouth Baptist Church, which he faithfully led for more than 40 years. During his tenure, he oversaw the construction of the church building and shepherded its growth from a congregation of 30 to close to 250 members.

After retiring from Falmouth Baptist Church in 1998, Rev. Hansen continued his pastoral ministry at Immanuel Baptist Church in New Bedford, Massachusetts, for another 20 years. He stepped away from active ministry only to devote himself full-time to caring for his beloved wife, Evelyn, who died in July of 2020 after a long illness.

Robert and Evelyn, a longtime kindergarten teacher in the East Falmouth elementary school, raised four children: Dr. Eric Hansen of Starkville, MS; James Hansen and his wife Sarah of Nashua, NH; Dr. Janice Goodman and her husband Rev. Ross Goodman of Williamstown, MA; and Joy Russell of Coventry, RI. He is also survived by a sister, Carol Wahl of Connecticut. He was the proud grandfather of ten grandchildren and great-grandfather of eight.

In addition to his ministry and devotion to family, Bob had a wide range of talents and interests. He was an avid tennis player who continued playing into his early 90s. He and Evelyn enjoyed traveling and together wrote a detailed family history. A gifted craftsman and artist, Bob built furniture and clocks, painted in oil and watercolor, made beautiful woodcarvings, and created intricate handmade toys for his grandchildren. Above all, he will be remembered as a man who led a life that exemplified Christian faith, service to others, and unwavering devotion to family.

Visiting hours will be held from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 21st at Chapman Funerals & Cremations, 475 Main Street, Falmouth. A Memorial Service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 21st at the Falmouth Baptist Church, 60 Central Park Ct, Falmouth, with a reception to follow. Reverend Hansen will be laid to rest beside his loving wife of 64 years with a private burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Jones Road, Falmouth.
