Carmella Marie Hansen, age 55 of Clinton Township, Michigan, passed away in her home in the morning hours of February 14, 2026. She was born in Mount Clemens, MI on August 22, 1970 to the late Anthony and Leonne (Fournier) Laratonda. For over 11 years, she was the beloved wife of Mr. Nicholas Hansen, marrying on March 22, 2014.

After graduating from Mount Clemens High School in 1988, Carmella received her double master's degrees from Wayne State University. She worked for the Van Dyke Public School system for nearly 30 years, specializing in speech and language pathology for elementary students. As she grew her expertise in her field, she would eventually become a very knowledgeable and wise mentor to countless students and staff alike. Her sharp intelligence, endless compassion, and unconditional love radiated all around her. She never forgot a birthday or a special day for a loved one, and she always loved spoiling her family with towers of Christmas presents.

In her later years, Carmella lost most of her eyesight, eventually becoming legally blind. But even then, her resilience and spirit prevented her from giving up on her many passions as she continued to work and live through the loss. She will be dearly remembered for her love of Peanuts, especially Snoopy, and her talents for baking, especially her many birthday cheesecakes throughout the years.

Carmella is survived by her loving family, including her husband Nicholas, brothers Michael (Nancy) and Edward (Sheri) Laratonda, and nieces Samantha, Corinne, and Elise Laratonda. She is preceded in death by her parents Anthony and Leonne.

Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to the Harold W. Vick Funeral Home, Mt. Clemens. A celebration of Carmella's life will be held on March 5, 2026 from 3-7pm at Infinity Hall, 16650 E. 14 Mile Road, Fraser, MI.

I have known Carmell since high school she was always so kind and thoughtful. We reconnected when we started working together at Carlson her smile her laugh, her positivity you couldn´t help to want to be a better person when you were with her She will be missed beyond words, my condolence to Nick and her family!

I had the pleasure of working with Carmella for a couple of years at Carlson. She was always so welcoming and kind. I never heard a negative word from her. She made us better people just knowing her and trying to live up to her standard of positivity.
