Jane Flaharty Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hansen Desert Hills Mortuary and Cemetery - Scottsdale on Feb. 21, 2026.
Jane Eileen Flaharty (nee Charske) passed away on February 20, 2026, attended by her daughters, following a brief battle with cancer.

Jane was born in Cleveland, Ohio to parents William and Evelyn Charske. A 1962 graduate of Regina High School in South Euclid, she went on to attend Kent State University and received her bachelor's degree in psychology in just three years.

She met her husband, John Joseph (Jack) Flaharty III, at a graduate mixer for Boston College, and the two never looked back. Married on December 31, 1967, they went on to have two daughters, Erin and Meghan, and made their home in Grand Blanc and West Bloomfield, Michigan, always accompanied by two dogs.

Jane subsequently earned two Master's degrees in psychology from Oakland University and Wayne State University and served as a school psychologist for Detroit Public Schools, often counseling high school students deemed most at risk. She enjoyed reading, travel, theater, bridge, crossword puzzles and Scrabble. Following Jack's death in 2023, Jane moved to Arizona to be closer to her daughters and curated a beautiful villa for herself filled with treasured mementos.

Jane is survived by her daughters Erin (David) Lewin and Meghan (Chris) Case; grandsons Nicholas, Bradley, Ty and Brandon; brother Bill Charske; brothers-in-law Mike (Sheila) Flaharty and Tim (Nancy) Flaharty; and beloved Wirehaired Pointing Griffons Cocoa and Dickens.

Per Jane's wishes, no memorial service is planned. Instead, donations may be made in her honor to Planned Parenthood Federation of America. Jane's daughters extend their gratitude to the residents and staff of Tuscany at McCormick Ranch and Hospice of the Valley for the friendship and care bestowed upon their mother.
