Richard Browning Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Wasik Funeral Home - Shelby Township on Feb. 21, 2026.
Richard Y. Browning was born on October 16, 1943 in Sharps Chapel, Tennessee to Walter Inman and Clara Veegee Browning. Richard passed away on February 20, 2026 at his residence in Clinton Township at the age of 82.

Richard was a conscientious soul, someone who believed that if a thing was worth doing, it was worth doing right. Whether at work or at home, he approached his responsibilities with care, integrity, and quiet determination. He was the kind of man who followed through, showed up, and who could always be counted on without question.

Generosity came naturally to him. He gave freely of his time, his advice, and his steady hands. If something was broken, he would fix it. He rarely sought recognition, finding his greatest satisfaction in knowing he had made someone else's day a little easier.

At the center of his world was his beloved wife, his partner in all things. Their marriage was a testament to devotion, built on laughter, shared values, and unwavering commitment. He loved her not only in words but in daily acts of care and loyalty. Together they built a home filled with warmth, resilience, and deep affection.

He was a proud and devoted father, always present, always aware, always involved. He had a remarkable way of knowing where his loved ones were-both geographically and in life. He kept mental notes of schedules, destinations, and plans, not out of worry alone, but out of a deep sense of responsibility and love.

Weather fascinated him. He followed storms the way others follow sports - studying maps, predicting shifts in the wind, and offering timely updates before anyone else had checked the news. A coming snowfall or summer thunderstorm wasn't just small talk; it was an event to observe, analyze, and appreciate.

But perhaps his greatest joy came with his grandchildren. With them, his serious side softened into playful warmth. He delighted in their stories, celebrated their accomplishments, and quietly saved mementos of their milestones. They will remember his steady hugs, his thoughtful questions, and the comfort of knowing Pa always knew exactly where they were and that he was always looking out for them.

He is the beloved husband of June for 62 years. Loving father of Christina (Scott) Failla, Don Phillips, and Bill Thomas. Very proud Pa of Olivia Failla, Zachary (fiancée Shelby Fenn) Failla, Nicole (Adam Cunningham) Phillips, Aaron Phillips, and Stephanie (John Woods) Phillips. Also very proud great grandpa of Skye Phillips and Devon Henry.

Richard is further survived by his sister Brenda Phillips.

Funeral services for Richard will remain private and have been entrusted to the Wasik Funeral Home of Shelby Township.
