George Jacobs Obituary

Jacobs USAF (Ret.) ELIZABETHTOWN Colonel George W. Jacobs, USAF (Ret), 87, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on Friday, June 1st, 2012, in Lancaster. He was married to Ina R. (Hippensteel) Jacobs on December 20, 1950. He was born in East Berlin, to the late Mervin and Jennie (Brown) Jacobs. A veteran of WWII, George proudly served in the U.S. Army and later in the U.S. Air Force and Pennsylvania National Guard. He retired from military duty with over 34 years of service. He was awarded a WWII Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal (Japan), Air Force Reserve Service Medal, Pennsylvania Commendation Medal, and as the Commander of the 111th Combat Support Squadron, PA Air Natl Guard, the Pennsylvania Meritorious Service Medal. He graduated from Penn State with a B.S. in Agriculture Education and also received his Masters in Education from the University of Delaware. He taught high school vocational agriculture, industrial arts and science in Kennett Square. In addition to his wife of over 61 years, he will be lovingly missed by his two children, son, Stephen W. of Lititz and daughter, Jane E., wife of Orville King, Jr., of Hummelstown; two grandsons; and two great-granddaughters. A brother and a sister preceded him in death. George was a member and Past President of the Kennett Educational Association, and member of PSEA and NEA. He served as Justice of the Peace from 1964-1970 in West Fallowfield Twp. He served as Past President, Secretary and was a 28 year Board member at the Keystone Credit Union in Downingtown. George was a Past Master and Past Secretary of Skerrett Lodge No. 343, Cochranville. He was a member of the Penn State Pioneers, University of Delaware Alumni, Air War College Alumni, National Sojourners, Reserve Officers Assn of the United States, the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of the Roosters Woodshop at the Masonic Village at Elizabethtown. George enjoyed his garden, travel, his boyhood fishing spot along the Conewago Creek, eagle watching, and most especially making heirloom furniture for his friends and family. He was a kind and gentle man who loved his family and was proud to be an American citizen. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Col. Jacobs Life Celebration Funeral Service 11 a.m. Thursday, at the Sell Chapel at the Masonic Village at Elizabethtown. Interment will be in the East Berlin Cemetery, East Berlin, at 2 p.m. Friends may call from 10 until 11 a.m. at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his honor to the Wounded Warrior Project 1120 G Street NW Suite 700 Washington DC 20005 or online at www.woundedwarriorproject.org. My brother Dale Wolf, cousin of George said he made stools & all kind of things for him when he was young & later when he was older. My brother is now 87 & still living on the farm. Fond Memories.
