I was sad to see that my search for Othmar led me to his obituary. He was my teacher for three dimensional design at York Academy of Art. What a special and warm sweet man. We all loved him. I took voice lessons from his wife, Margaret, who absolutely adored him, "my Othmar" See you again one day. I am only now in my third year of sculpting after all this time.

Othmar Carli was my brother's best friend. We lived across the street from each other in Graz, Austria. They went to school together, and then they would sit up in a huge tree in front of our house. They were buddies. I was too young to participate. Othmar's mother was an actress, and sometimes she would take them along to the theatre just to watch, and once in a while to participate.
When we came to Canada, they lost touch with each other. Some years later, when my brother visited Graz very briefly, he tried to locate Othmar again, but was told he had moved and nobody seemed to know where. Sadly, not long afterwards my brother suffered a fatal heart attack and they never saw each other again.
Maybe now, when they have both gone to be with their maker, they will get in touch with each other again. Rest in Peace.

So sorry to hear of the passing of this wonderful artist, scholar & gentleman. He was so full of life and gave me many moments of delight as he would tell me about some of his works and the meaning behind them. His Holiday prints were always a treasure to have. He will be missed.

We are occasionally privileged to glimpse the true grandeur that is the promise of perfection in another human being. That is what happened when we met and rejoiced in the goodness, genius and love of life that permeated and surrounded this most noble of men. We will miss the light of his love, we cannot say enough about the gift Othmar Carli was for everyone. We were honored to have known this unique human being.
