William H. Strayer

Mount Wolf - William H. Strayer, 91, of Mount Wolf, passed away Sunday, January 31, 2021 at Spiritrust Lutheran Home in York. He was the husband of the late Patricia (Dietrich) Strayer who died on February 12, 2010.

Bill was born November 1, 1929 in York and was the son of the late Henry and Sadie (Bamberger) Strayer.

He graduated in 1947 from William Penn High School in York. He attended Penn State University in York and graduated in 1969 from the main campus in State College, PA. He was an electrical Engineer for ACCO Hoist and Crain Company in York for 22 years before retiring in 1992. Bill was an active volunteer with Meals on Wheels and was a member of the Susquehanna Lions Club in Mount Wolf and St. Paul United Methodist Church in Manchester. Bill was a talented artist who encouraged others to develop their talents, including sharing art classes with his daughter, Diane. He also had a great love of jazz music and concerts, especially the York Symphony Orchestra. Bill loved having family pool parties and family weekends in the mountains. One of his greatest joys in life was traveling with his wife Pat. They traveled in the United States and internationally and had great adventures together.

Bill is survived by his daughter, Janet Sweitzer and her husband Barry of York; one grandson, Jeremy Sowers; one great grandchild and his brothers, Gary Strayer of Mount Wolf and Lance Strayer of Hanover. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Diane Sowers.

A memorial service to celebrate Bills life will be private. Officiating at his service will be his visitation pastor Reverend Dr. Eddie D. D. Miller from St. Paul United Methodist Church in Manchester. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Diehl Funeral Home & Cremation Center of Mount Wolf.
