Bonnie Sowers Obituary

Bonnie L. Sowers
YORK
Born to Judd and Maxine Youkers on May 21, 1939, Bonnie shared her growing-up years with two brothers, Frank and Judd, and then chose to share the rest of her life with her beloved husband, Bill Sowers. Bonnie was passionate about her family of four children and their spouses, Amy and Jeff Gladfelter, Dan and fiancé, Carol Moose, Rebecca and husband, Matthias Kriesberg, and Andrew and wife, Faye. Bonnie's passion encircled her five grandchildren, Eric & Amanda Gladfelter and Bremen Hansell, Miranda & Kiana Sowers and included many other family members, friends and former students. "Living life to the fullest", Bonnie's mantra, led her to embrace her teaching, music, art, learning, giving to others, and her faith.
A service to celebrate Bonnie's life among us will be held Saturday, March 24 at 11 a.m. at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 839 W. Market St., York, followed by a visitation and luncheon. Interment will be held at the Gettysburg Campus of the United Lutheran Seminary, at the discretion of the family. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, York, is assisting with arrangements.
Donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made to St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 839 W. Market St., York, PA 17401, York Country Day School, 1000 Indian Rock Dam Rd., York, PA 17403, American Cancer Society, 924 N Colonial Ave., York, PA 17403 or any charity of your choice.

To the Sowers Family (especially Bill, Amy and Eric),
I will miss Bonnie. She has been an ear for me for 30 years. We have cried together and shared our similar paths. Bonnie has been my strength when I didn't think I had any and my friend when I wasn't feeling very friend like. One of my favorite stories of Bonnie happened at school (of course). She was talking to a student and said, "Now _____, you know I love you and because of that I'm going to require you to ..." Wow! What a lesson in teaching and parenting. Because I love you I'm going to require the best of you. I am going to require you to do something you don't want to do because I know what's best for you and I love you enough. Love with boundaries. I'll never forget it.

Bonnie was real. She kept her head up and fought through the last year. At times, I 'd see her and think I couldn't do this. Then came the surrender. She remained Bonnie through it all. She wanted to finish strong and she did. She tied up all the loose ends. I know she is with her maker today. She always was and always will be "love."

I pray for peace for your family. Bonnie has peace and is feeling the love.

Bonnie was a sheer joy to know. She made everyone feel special, whether a student, a parent, a parishioner, or casual acquaintance. So full of life and caring. She will be missed. Our family's hearts go out to Bill and family.

Prayers and Love from your CROP Family

March 17, 2018

Bonnie was the epitome of pure love. She embraced my daughters and me, bringing us into her fold. She loved us like her own. God placed this beautiful angel and her husband in our lives during a time we needed them most. Anybody who knew Bonnie, knew Jesus. Our meeting was not accidental and she is now a part of us. Her love and light will shine through us now as we love others the way she loved us. She was one of the most amazing women I ever knew and her wisdom, guidance, and grace will be missed. I am honored to have been a member of her fold.

Bill and family:

Bonnie will be missed, but her life will never leave us. She touched so many lives, and through that she lives on in earth. In Heaven, God probably has her in charge of a choir or teaching art! May God wrap His loving arms around all of you, give you peace, and comfort you in the days to come.
