James Vankirk Obituary

With great sadness we share the passing of James Vankirk. At the age of 92 he passed away peacefully on March 6, 2025, in Lady Lake, FL. James Verne Vankirk Jr was born on September 2, 1932 in Point Pleasant, NJ and proceeded to live in Seaside Heights. Jim was a staple at Funtown Pier in the 60's, 70's and 80's. He was known for his passion and dedication to the boardwalk and amusement industry. Though he relocated to the Florida Keys in the mid 80's he continued to work every summer at the Casino Pier in Seaside Heights, NJ where he had made lasting memories and friendships. Jim or Jimmy as his coworkers would call him was actively planning to return this season up until a few weeks before his passing. Jim is survived by his wife of 48 years Donna, their daughter Stacy, son-in-law Evan and granddaughters Peyton and Evelyn. From a previous marriage son Mike, his wife Sandi, daughter Kathy, her husband Lou and granddaughter Kelly. A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday April 2, 2025 from 6:00pm-8:30pm at the American Legion, 1400 Bay Boulevard, Seaside Heights, NJ. In lieu of flowers the family ask that donations be made to the Casino Pier Scholarship Fund in Jimmy's name, 34 Sherman Ave. Seaside Heights, NJ 08751.
