James William Wiechens

James William Wiechens, 72, of Ocala, Florida, passed away on Thursday, September 18, 2025. James, "Jim" was born in Key West, Florida, to Leo and Rosella Wiechens on December 5, 1952, and has lived in Ocala since 1957. He graduated from Ocala High School in 1970. Early in his professional career Jim worked as a residential contractor for his company, Wiechens Construction Inc., but ultimately found his way to his true passion - flora. He worked as a prominent landscape designer in Marion County for Land Art Nursery, Porter's Nursery, and finally Ocala Landscape Management until he retired in 2018. Throughout his life, Jim enjoyed woodworking, photography, hunting, fishing, boating, and spending time with friends and family. Jim is survived by his daughter Stacy Thomas, son-in-law Todd Thomas, his grandchildren Jimmy Jordan and Kade Thomas of St. Petersburg, FL; his brother Eugene "Gene" Wiechens and sister-in-law Leslie Wiechens of Ocala, FL; his nieces and nephews, Sandon Wiechens (Jennifer) of Ocala, Dustin Wiechens of Ocala, Stephen Wiechens (Sarina) of St. Johns, FL, Michael Wiechens (Devon) of The Villages, FL, Kenlea Wall (Ben) of Savannah, GA, and Kinnan Malatesta (Michael) of Altamonte Springs, FL; and his great nieces and nephews, O'Brien, Annabelle, Ainsley, Kayla, Jack, Parker, Sharon Rose, Eleanor, Michael, Leo, Rae Marie, Burke, Kenneth, Benton, and Keller. Jim is predeceased in death by his father Leo Wiechens in 2015; his mother Rosella Wiechens in 2018; brother Kenneth Wiechens in 1990; brother Gerald "Jerry" Wiechens in 2023; and sister-in-law Peggy Wiechens in 1999. A Memorial Celebration of Life will be held at Kenny's Place Nursery, 7677 SE 41st Ct, Ocala, FL 34480 on Saturday, October 25, 2025, from 11:00am – 1:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Kenny's Place Nursery.
