Donn M. Hassman, a devoted Air Force veteran, loving family man, and dedicated community member, passed away peacefully at the age of 90. Born in Glencoe, Minnesota, Donn grew up on a hardworking family farm, raising sweet corn and work horses where he developed the resilience and determination that would define his life.
In 1954, seeking adventure and purpose beyond the fields of Hutchinson, Minnesota, Donn enlisted in the United States Air Force, beginning a distinguished 20-year military career. As a skilled mechanic and Crew Chief, he served across the globe, from the frigid landscapes of Alaska to the dense jungles of Vietnam, always carrying with him an unwavering commitment to duty and service. His time in the Air Force was marked by two courageous tours of Vietnam, including perilous rescue missions, critical missile support operations, and moments of survival that can only be described as miraculous.
Donn's dedication to service extended beyond the military. After his honorable discharge in 1974, he moved to Arizona and continued working in mechanics, later starting his own moving company, Donn's Moving, while earning an associate's degree at Scottsdale Community College.
Those who knew Donn will remember his sense of humor, his love of country music, and his ability to turn every experience into a story worth telling. His life was one of adventure, service, and love, values he passed on to those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Donn is survived by his daughter, Kristin Pozen and her husband Craig; grandchildren Nate and Zoey; sisters Darlene Chesney and Harriet Sturges; nephews Thom and Wayne; nieces Lynn and Laura; stepdaughters Ramona Carnow, Michele Palmer and husband Greg; step- grandchildren Natalie, Taylor, Lindsey and Heather; in-laws Robert and Victoria Barna; and 4 step-great grandchildren.
He is reunited in rest with his wife Arlene Rose James-Hassman, parents Myron and Dorothy Hassman, and aunts Marion and Helen.
Military honors will be rendered in a private graveside service at National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the
Alzheimer's Association. Donn M. Hassman's legacy lives on in the stories he told, the lives he touched, and the family he cherished. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Donn Myron Hassman, please visit our floral store.
