John William DeMatteo

John (Johnny) DeMatteo of Fountain Hills passed away at the age of 80 on July 12th, 2025. Born on January 14, 1945 in Pittsburgh, PA, he is survived by his two sisters, Josephine DeMatteo and Alice DeSarno and his sister in-law, Christine DeMatteo as well as his beloved nieces and nephews: Carol Foley (Brian), Joe Maurillo (Marie), Steve Maurillo (Mary), Tony DeMatteo, Debbie Wiesen (Jim) and Jennifer DeSarno. John is also survived by his dear friend, Monyou Tong. He is preceded in death by his parents, Antonio and Lucia as well as his brothers and sister, Del, Art, Cathy, and Anthony (Booty). John proudly served in the Army and was a true patriot. He moved to California after going to school on the GI Bill and began his life on the West Coast where he worked as an executive in an electronics company until he retired. He moved to Fountain Hills in the early 2000s enjoying life in Arizona. There wasn't a golf course that John didn't like as golfing was one of his favorite pastimes. Although he was a cautious bettor, he truly enjoyed spending time at the track with his friend, Monyou. He was a true animal lover from the time he smuggled a kitten against his mother's wishes into his childhood home, and he was a devoted advocate for many animal rescue organizations. John had a big heart, a warm smile, and a generous spirit. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. A memorial service will be held for John on Monday, July 21st at 10:30am at National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona.
