Annelies Dahlquist Obituary

Annelies Feil Dahlquist

October 27, 1925-

March 14, 2025

Annelies Helena Feil Dahlquist, 99, of Albuquerque, NM passed away after a long and loving life.

She grew up in Belen as part of a closely knit community of friends and family. As a child, she often helped out in the family's Feil and Ellermeyer Department store. While attending UNM, she met and married Gunnar Dahlquist, a Navy ROTC student from Tacoma, WA. Together they raised three daughters and built a successful general contractor business in Albuquerque. Fluent in English, German, and Spanish, Annelies taught German at Manzano High School. Following their retirement, Annelies and Gunnar relocated, dividing their time between Santa Barbara, CA and Quadra Island, BC. It was important to them that their children and their children's families maintain a strong connection. They looked for opportunities to bring the whole family together, often in British Columbia, working as a team on projects, sharing stories, and sometimes simply enjoying the tranquility of skipping rocks at the beach.

"Omi", as she was affectionately called by the family, was well known for her wisdom, love, and common sense advice. As her grandchildren were growing up, they would ask their parents "why" questions, which were often resolved with the answer, "because Omi says". She has been a guiding light for the family, modeling love, compassion, respect, hard work, humor, confidence, kindness, faith, and how to make the family's favorite lebkuchen cookies and other specialties.

She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, her parents Paul Julius and Erna Schulze Feil, her brother Paul Arnold Feil of Deming, her grandson Adam Orell and great-grandson Christopher Thurber. Her legacy continues through her daughters, Elise Orell, Elaine Solimon, and Arlene Thurber Larson and their spouses (Pat Orell, Ron Solimon, and John Larson), her six grandchildren (Eric and Nels Orell, Kristin Solimon Pifer and Justin Solimon, Jason and Andrew Thurber), and their families, including ten great-grandchildren, and a close circle of relatives and friends.

The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to the staff at Montebello and Roadrunner Hospice for their compassionate care for Annelies as her needs grew.

A family memorial gathering will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Faith Lutheran Church, ARCA, or the charity of your choice on her behalf.
