David Porter Obituary

David Lane Porter

David Lane Porter, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend passed away on May 2, 2025. He was born on October 19, 1957, in Victoria, Texas.

As a child, David's parents Garland and Wanda Porter, lived throughout Texas, working in the oil and gas industry. The Porter's made their way to Lovington, New Mexico where David attended Lovington High School and met his loving wife of 25 years, Crystal. The family returned to Texas where David graduated from San Angelo High School in 1975 and later from Angelo State University with an accounting degree, becoming a CPA. He worked as the Director of Strategic Planning and Management for Enron Corporation in the Oil and Gas Department until his retirement.

David loved sharing his knowledge with his family, especially his daughter Katie. He taught her money management, investment, and savings. With a calm demeanor, he mentored Katie, encouraging her to grow both professionally and personally.

David was a man of rare kindness and quiet strength that made you feel loved. He lived his life always thinking of others, recognizing their needs and taking time to make each person feel special, with a call, thoughtful gift, or shared joke at just the right time. Maggie, his granddaughter was the love of David's life. David and Crystal treasured the time they spent with her each Friday.

David had a deep love of music that was woven into every part of his life, whether he was playing, listening or sharing a favorite song. Music was one of the many ways he connected with others and expressed himself.

Along with David's love of music his pride and joy were his 1969 Ford Bronco which he spent years rebuilding with dear friend Preston Geis. Just mentioning his Bronco put a smile on David's face.

David deeply loved his family, was the voice of reason, and always saw the best in every individual. He leaves behind a legacy of warmth, selflessness and love that will live on in the hearts of everyone who knew him.

David will be greatly missed by those he left behind.

He is survived by his wife Crystal Porter Albuquerque, New Mexico; daughter Katie Hale (Michael), Albuquerque, New Mexico, granddaughter, Margaret Louise (Maggie) Hale; sisters, Margo Volkmer (Erik) of League City, Texas, and Mindy Porter of Austin, Texas; nephews, Jeremy Tipton (Anna) of Frisco, Texas, Cameron Tipton of Austin, Texas, Lane Volkmer (Rachel), of League City, Texas, Dalton Volkmer of League City, Texas, 3 great-nieces and nephews; and Abbey, his beloved Yorkshire Terrier.

Special gratitude to Dr. Eugene Koshkin, University of New Mexico, for providing compassionate medical care to David.

A Celebration to honor David's life will be held Saturday, June 21, 2025, from 2:00-5:00 pm in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Please contact Crystal for more information.

In lieu of flowers, please honor David's memory and legacy by doing something kind for someone today; just like he would.
