Dawn Czapski Obituary

Dawn Edith Czapski

October 7,

1930 â€"

November 19, 2022

Dawn Czapski,

beloved mother, grandmother

and great-

grandmother, passed away

peacefully in her sleep, after a brief illness, at the young age of 92!

She was preceded in death by her husband, Col. Edmund Czapski, her father Frances Demarest, mother Edith Demarest, brother Donald Stolier and sister Muriel Cottage.

She is survived by daughters Janet Livingstone (Jeff), Lynn Barr (Pat), Tami Garcia (Pat): all from Albuquerque, and Cindy Taylor, from Puyallup, Washington. She leaves behind 9 grandchildren: Blaine deVesty (Angela) from Sonoita, Arizona, Trent deVesty (Tiva), of Albuquerque, Claire Smith (Jason) of Albuquerque, Ashley Barr (Tom Verstynen) from Gilbert, Arizona, Sara Barr (Evan Keene) from Albuquerque, Kyle Barr (Jazmin Estrada) of Ruidoso, New Mexico, Darrell Garcia (Alicia), from Albuquerque, Jessica Garcia (Ken Keyes), from Albuquerque, and Cari Aida (Michael), from Tacoma, Washington. She also leaves behind 14 grandchildren.

Dawn was born in St. Petersburg, Florida to Frances and Edith Demarest. She took the train to New York City at age 16 to work for the war efforts. At 19, she went to visit her sister for Christmas in Roswell, New Mexico and never returned home as she met her future husband, Edmund Czapski, an officer in the Air Force. They were married on May 10, 1950 and spent many years traveling with the Air Force both

abroad and within the US. They had 4 daughters and retired to

Albuquerque in

1971. At that time she went back to college and earned her BA as a registered nurse. Her nursing career spanned over 25 years; two of her favorite roles were in the ObGyn and the rehabilitation unit at Presbyterian Hospital. She volunteered for decades, fostering many animals through the Animal Humane Association and adopting several as her own. She took time out from her career to provide childcare for several grand-children. She enjoyed attending performances, sporting events and other school activities. Five years ago, she moved into Coronado Villa, a senior community, where she had many friends and activities. She was an avid bridge and Mahjong player and taught numerous people how to play these games. She was a voracious reader (with a cat always sitting on her lap â€" Callie, Pumpkin and Shamu) and even listened to many books on tape as she walked Domingo Baca park with her beloved dogs (Beau, Kachina and Muffin). Up until her passing, she was still driving, working on her computer, doing weekly yoga and meeting her daughters at Starbucks.

Memorial and reception to be at Coronado Villa (6900 San Vicente, NE) on December 10, 2022, at 10:00AM.

Dawn was a beautiful and uplifting person, and one heck of a Mahjong player.

I met Dawn though her sister Muriel. After Murel passed, Dawn and I became close FB and online friends, exchanging notes and cards often. I will miss her so much; she was such a lovely dear person! I loved that she loved animals and had such a clever wit.
