Gabriel Ortega Obituary

Gabriel Leroy Ortega

Gabriel Leroy Ortega was born on January 14, 1941 in Questa, NM to Ruben and Corina Ortega. He passed away at his home in Albuquerque on February 4, 2018 surrounded by his children and grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his infant children, Mary and Gabriel Ortega; his parents, Ruben and Corina Ortega; grandparents, Eulogio and Rosita Ortega, Albino and Andrellita Rael; and brother-in-law, Chris Sanchez. He is survived by his sons, Ruben and Steve Ortega and daughters-in-law, Kim and Lisa Ortega; and daughter Victoria Davis and son-in-law, Cecil Davis; and the mother of his children, Marcelle Ortega. He is also survived by his seven amazing and much loved grandchildren, Angelo and Nichole Ortega, Isaiah and Bella Ortega, Justin, Samuel and Elizabeth Davis; his loving sisters, Jane Gonzales (Vic), Betty Sanchez (Chris), Elma Ortega, Dodie(Lori), Angela Chavez, Reyna Gonzales (Daniel); and numerous nephews and nieces.

Gabe's favorite song was "El Rey." It summed up his life well. He lived his life in his own way and on his own terms. He can best be described as his kids and grandkids BIGGEST FAN, constantly bragging about one of his grandkids or children. As per his wishes, cremation has taken place and a private ceremony will take place with his family. We will miss you Dad, Grandpa, and Brother.

Very sorry to learn of Gabriel's passing. We went thru Boot Camp together and did our time and duty in the Marine Reserves. We used to buddy around when we got back from Boot Camp. As time went on we lost contact. I enjoyed our time together. Several fishing trips to Northern New Mexico are fondly remembered. Gabe was one of the true characters I have enjoyed in life. Once again my sympathies. Laurence T. Tafoya
