Gary Stephen Bild

Gary Stephen Bild was born on March 31, 1949 in Washington, DC and passed away in Boerne, TX on December 25, 2025. Gary was the middle son of Charles and Mildred (Hansford) Bild, who preceded him in death, as did his brother Richard Bild, all of whom called Albuquerque their home.

At the age of two, the family moved to Albuquerque and Gary had a wonderful childhood, particularly enjoying his Boy Scout years. He graduated from Highland High School; earned a BS degree in Chemistry from New Mexico Tech in Socorro. After college he served two years in the US Army. He went on to graduate school at Purdue University, where he met his wife Pamela (Friedline) of Germantown, Ohio. They were married in 1976. In 1978, he earned a doctorate in biochemistry and completed post doctoral research at UCLA in the laboratory of Chemistry Nobel Laureate Paul D. Boyer.

He had a distinguished 30 year research career in the pharmaceutical industry, having leadership roles in both Discovery and Pharmaceutical Sciences, during which he earned multiple patents. Gary also mentored junior scientists both inside and outside the laboratory. He was on the editorial board of the scientific journal Analytical Biochemistry for many years. He and his wife raised three sons in Chesterfield, MO. Shortly after retirement from Pfizer in 2008, Gary and Pamela moved to Corrales NM and after a decade, settled in Boerne, TX.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Pamela. Three sons, their wives and five grandchildren. Steven (Jannette) and son Nikolas of Abu Dhabi, UAE; Stuart (Jessica), daughters Evelyn and Ella of Austin, TX and Evan (Samantha), children Whitney and Warren of Edina, MN. He is also survived by one brother, Charles (Elizabeth) Bild of Charleston, SC and sister-in-law Karen Robinson Bild, of Albuquerque, NM, as well as numerous nieces and nephews who were very dear to him.

Above all, Gary was devoted to his wife and family, who were the center of his life. He took special pride in being a veteran.

Service will be at the Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM at a later date.
