James Foley Obituary

James Hesselden Foley (Jim)

Jim passed away peacefully in his home with his wife and daughters by his side on July 8, 2022, one week after his 73rd birthday, ending a 20 month battle with metastatic bladder cancer.

He is survived by his wife, Susan; his daughter Jessica, husband Casey and four children (Jack, Erin, Anne and Josephine) of Corte Madera, CA and his daughter Lauren, husband Neil and two children (Evie and Isla) of Corrales, NM, and his sister Denise Pierce and husband Steve of Tucson, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents Martha and James Foley and his brother Brian Foley.

Jim was born in Washington DC on July 1, 1949 but lived in Albuquerque for all but the first year of his life. He attended various parochial schools and then graduated from Albuquerque Academy. He attended Coe College and graduated from UNM.

He and Susan were married in 1972, almost making it to their 50th wedding anniversary and raised their two daughters in the family home built by his grandfather. He was fiercely devoted to his family. His passion was music and all things guitar. He played in bands, groups and weddings, playing everything from bluegrass, jazz, blues, rock, flamenco and classical. His other passion was fly-fishing, especially in northern NM and southern CO. He began a 30 year career in appraising real estate and formed his own business, Shipman Foley and Assoc.

He was a well respected member of the appraisal community. But he always came back to his beloved guitar.

Per Jim's wishes, his body was cremated and no services are planned at this time. His family wishes to thank the Presbyterian Cancer Center, in particular Dr. Stanley Nwabudike, for the wonderful treatment he received and Presbyterian Hospice.

I worked with Shane LeMon for many years before I became self-employed. Jim's office was located directly across from mine. Thus, I would see him every day that I was in the office, and we would often share a "good-morning" greeting, and an occasional appraisal philosophy discourse. He and I were both born in 1949. We were the right-of-way experts in the office (so we were told), and we both did alot of work for the City of Albuquerque.

My sincere sympathies to his wife & his family.

God will welcome Jim into his heavenly home. God Bless.

Condolences to the family.

Jim was one of the leaders in the local appraisal community and always one of the brightest and most knowledgeable people in the room. He was one of the few people that when he spoke the entire class would learn. The local chapter has missed his presence and will continue to do so. He will be remembered kindly by all the appraisers that knew him.

I am shocked and truly saddened to learn of Jim's passing. I'm an appraiser too and Jim & I developed a relationship more than ten years ago. I'm a Bank appraiser and Engaged Jim to do numerous appraisals for us in New Mexico. Jim was a gifted appraiser and he set the bar as a professional. An all around good man. I will miss him dearly.

From my family to his, many regrets for your loss.

God Bless,
