John was a great mentor, jokester, friend, fellow dog lover and golfer. We enjoyed all the above while I was with NCA and we continued to stay in touch after I left the firm. Above all, I called him my friend and I was truly saddened to hear of his passing. Hit them straight and may the wind be forever at your back John!

John was the lead architect on several jobs I had as a general contractor. He was a collaborator and problem solver and easy going. Unlike most architects who have an air of superiority John was on the level. I am near the end of my career and after 40 years in construction he is on my A list. Thank you John and his family for setting an example worth following,

What a great and funny man. I knew John for many years through work and play. He made me laugh each and every time I was fortunate enough to be around him. My heart is broken and my sincerest condolences to the Layman family. RIP my friend.
