Juan Bernal Obituary
On July 8, 2015, our 90 year-old papa, Juan DeDios Bernal, gently passed into the arms of his Savior, parents Pablo and Terecina Lopez Bernal and Molly Bernal, stepmother and departed siblings: Virginia Bernal Kelly, Helen, Antonio, Jose Ignacio (Nash), and Albert Bernal.
Papa Juan dearly loved telling stories about his early sheep herding days on his family ranch in Tinaja, Northern New Mexico. He proudly retired as a master sergeant in the U.S. Air Force after twenty-five years of service. Juan's second retirement was from Texas Instruments.
Our daddy was a hard-working man but worked more for others than himself. He greeted each day with gusto and good cheer and especially loved having family around him.
Juan and his beloved wife, Louise Roseman Barrier Bernal created a haven for their family in Sherman, TX.
Papa's Texas family includes: John (deceased) and Christi Barrier, Brenda Barlow, Greg and Joyce Barrier, Jeff and Pam Barrier, and Janet Taylor.
Former children from an earlier marriage to Mary Bernal include Gloria Bernal Guinn and her spouse, Russell Guinn and his stepdaughter Betty Joyce DeCarriere. He so loved his 13 grandchildren and 20 great -grandchildren.
Surviving family from New Mexico include sisters Viola Bernal Castillo (spouse, Luciano Castillo, deceased) and Terecina (Teddy) Jean, (spouse, Wendell Jean, deceased) and numerous nephews and nieces including his godson/nephew Michael Jean and his niece, Kimberly Andrews.
Family would especially like to thank Lisa, Michelle, and Tanya who helped care for Juan; for Home Hospice of Grayson; and Grace Lutheran Church, Sherman, Texas.
Adios, Papa Juan! Take care of those sheep in the sky and your furry friends.
A memorial service will be held at Grace Lutheran Church, 2411 Woodlake Rd., Denison, TX on Saturday, July 25 at 1 p.m.

Papa Juan was such a gentle soul. He knew he was going to heaven and embraced his death with great dignity. He lived a long and happy life. My prayers to Louise and the rest of the family. Pam

My father, though separated for many years, resides in my heart and in my mirror according to many. As a child I remember his arms in a scratchy uniform or suit comforting me. I remember walking down sidewalks with dad shouting out a friendly howdy to anyone who passed (as I looked down at my feet). I remember my heart swell with pride as crowds cheered him as a star softball pitcher for the military. As a young bride, I remember him embracing my husband to be and whispering to me that I found a good un'. Your other children have more memories than I can count and I hope your Sherman family will gather together and retell your shared stories over the years. Love you, G.
