Kenneth Carson Obituary

Carson, Kenneth

Kenneth Jay Carson, 87, went home to be with the Lord at 6:00 pm, Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at Beehive Homes Senior Living Services in Albuquerque, NM.

Born October 7, 1929 in Lenapah, Oklahoma; Ken came to Albuquerque at 18 months old. He was united in marriage to Margaret E. Carson 61+ years. She preceded Ken in death on June 23, 2015.

Ken is survived by three children, Kenneth J. Carson, Jr. (his wife Teresa), Michael G. Carson (his wife Theresa) and Dr. Martiece Carson; four grandchildren (Reina, TreChelle (Maryland), Joshua and Keyanna); two sisters-in-law, Reginald Adams ( cousins), and several nieces and nephews.

Ken attended Grant Chapel AME Church for more than 60+ years and served the Lord in many capacities (Trustee Board, Finance Committee, Lay Organization, and member of the Senior Usher Board).

After retirement, as a manager, with 37 years of service at the US Postal Service, Ken fulfilled a life long dream and became the founder of The Wise Men and Women Mentorship Program 'Los Sabios". The program was designed to help children build strong character, achieve positive self-esteem, and create solutions to their everyday problems with the help of a caring relationship from an adult volunteer mentor. Ken also spent a great majority of his time working as a community activist and advocate for high risk children and volunteering with organizations that promotes human dignity.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at Grant Chapel AME Church, 7920 Claremont NE with Rev. John D. Hill officiating. Interment will be immediate after service at Fairview Memorial Park, 700 Yale Blvd. SE. To view information or leave a condolence, please visit

I was saddened when I read of Ken's death. I send his family my deepest sympathy. I am sorry for your loss. Ken was a wonderful person and a great athlete. I was in his AHS class of 1948. We all respected and admired Ken and felt knowing him was a privilege. Sincerely, Joan Stromberg Florance

Ken's wife was my son's (Paul) second grade teacher at Montgomery Elementary, and she was such a wonderful teacher and person. His daughter, Martiece, was in the same high school class as my oldest daughter (Nancy) and attended her 17th birthday party. I sat at a table at a program with both Ken and Margaret several years ago, and enjoyed catching up on our families' news. I send my deepest sympathy to Martiece and her brothers. Losing a dad is a life-changing event for kids of any age.
Much love to the family,
Mary A. Johnson, Ph.D.
