Lee Anthony Chavez



Lee A. Chavez, age 59, passed away peacefully at his home in Colorado Springs, CO on 19 March 2023 surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on 24 July 1963 in Mountainair, NM to Leon and Imelda (Perea) Chavez. Lee grew up in Torreon, NM and attended Estancia Municipal Schools.

Upon graduation in 1981 Lee entered into the United States Air Force, serving 26 years in Command and Control. While assigned to Offutt AFB, NE he met his wife, of almost 37 years, Donna (Flauding). Shortly after their marriage they relocated to The Netherlands followed by assignments to Colorado, Germany, Kansas and finally back to Colorado where he retired in 2007. After retirement Lee continued his service to our nation working as a government civilian for the Missile Defense Agency.

Lee loved sports and was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. He loved camping, fishing, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. He especially loved being in the mountains.

Lee was a member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Patrick Council #9993 in Colorado Springs, CO. Prior to his health problems he spent numerous hours helping at the monthly pancake breakfasts as well as the annual

Tootsie Roll Drives. Lee always had a smile and a positive outlook on life and will be greatly missed.

Lee is survived by his wife Donna, son Matthew of Chugiak, AK; daughter Amanda and her husband Brandon Edwards of Colorado Springs, CO; his parents Leon and Imelda Chavez; sisters Ramona Chavez and Charlene B. Chavez all of Torreon, NM and numerous other family members.

A Rosary will be recited Friday, 14 April 2023 at 10:00 am at San Antonio Catholic Church Torreon, NM followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in the Torreon Cemetery, Torreon, Torrance County, NM.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or Cancer Research Institute.
