Leola Rickey Obituary

Rickey, Leola "Lee"

Leola "Lee" Rickey was an eastern Nebraska girl born to Meta and Herbert Gutzmer in 1926. A lifelong Cornhusker fan, she married her dear husband, Earl David Rickey in Denver, CO in 1946.

Together they raised their two daughters, Connie Lee, and Earlene Sue, in Colorado and in the San Francisco Bay Area. In 1975 Lee and Dave moved to Albuquerque and their grandchildren, David Edward, and Amy Rose, remember their summers visiting in Albuquerque and Vallecito Lake, CO fondly.

After Dave's death in 2007, Lee became a member of Sandia Presbyterian Church. Her church family was very important to her; her "Merry Mailers" friendships made the one Wednesday they met each month a highlight that she was not keen on missing! We are grateful for her fast friendship with Ellen, her Saturday breakfast pal. Lee was blessed to have Ellen and her family include her in their family celebrations.

Lee's four siblings remain in NE and KS and they will remember her especially on each Cornhusker game day and each "Polka Party" night. God bless Lee. We will miss her.

Services will be private. Interment will be held at Sandia Memory Gardens in Albuquerque. Thank you to all of Lee's friends who have contacted the family with their condolences.

Donations can be made in Memory of Leola Rickey and mailed to Disabled American Veterans P.O. Box 14301 Cincinnati, OH. 45250.

I will miss seeing "Miss Lee" at the office where I work. She was a sweetheart! And she thought so much of her daughters. Always looked forward to calls and visits with her girls. She never seemed to be discouraged when she had health setbacks. Always expressed care and concern for others. My sympathy for you, her family. My missing her likely pales in comparison to how you feel.

Our deepest sympathy to Connie, Sue and families on the passing of your mother Lea. We were saddened when we saw it in the paper this morning. We met Lea at the Healthplex, and enjoyed visiting with her and becoming friends. She had a great sense of humor and enjoyed talking football with Roger. She was always so neat and well dressed. We will certainly miss her. Sharon & Roger
