Louie Chavez, 59, died in Huntsville, Alabama, on February 4, 2016. A memorial service will be held at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, 833 Arizona Ave. SE, in Albuquerque on Saturday, April 2, beginning with a Rosary at 9:30 AM, the Memorial Service at 10:00, and internment at Mt. Calvary cemetery with a celebration to follow.

An Albuquerque native, Louie spent his young life in the Ridgecrest area neighborhood with his his parents, John J. and Emma S., and his siblings Chet and Gina Chavez. He left home to attend the Abbey School in Canon City, Colorado, graduating in 1974 after which he returned to Albuquerque to attend UNM and later TVI.

His engineering career included many years at Digital Equipment and its successor companies, and in 2013 he transferred to Huntsville on behalf of General Electric, with a contingent of his Albuquerque colleagues.

It was in Huntsville that Lou learned that he had been beset by a brutal cancer, and his Huntsville colleagues who acted as his family and support structure during those difficult months of his valiant struggle against the disease. Lou's New Mexico family is profoundly grateful for the love, support and encouragement he received from his extended family of Huntsville friends throughout those difficult months of his courageous battle.

Sweet Lou will be much missed not because of what he did, but because of who he was. Lou was a gentle and generous man of faith who always saw the humor in life.

He is survived by his brother Chet; his sister Gina; and the nieces and nephews he loved dearly. He leaves his friends and family with a tear for the loss, and a smile for the laughter he brought into our lives. Adios
