Mark Armijo Obituary

Armijo, Mark

Mark Armijo passed away on December 15, 2015, at the age of 48. Mark graduated from Rio Grande High School in 1985 and from the College of Santa Fe with a degree in Computer Science in 2004. Up until his passing, Mark was serving as vice chair of the Central New Mexico Community College Governing Board and as the president of Nuestros Valores Charter School Board. He had been a CNM Governing Board member representing District 4 since 2011 and had been president of Nuestros Valores Charter School Board since 2000. After being elected to the CNM board Mark joined NALEO, the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials, an organization he loved being a part of. Mark was a South Valley native and dedicated his life to the improvement of the South Valley. During his life he served as president of the South Valley Soccer Club and coached baseball at South Valley Little League. His day job since 2008 was as a systems analyst for the Albuquerque Bernalillo County Water Utility Authority. With his family he founded and was president of the Pauline Armijo Scholarship Fund, which provides scholarships to non-traditional women seeking degrees in the education field. The fund is named after his mother, who was a teacher. Mark was a highly valued member of his community and was passionate about helping people improve their lives through education. When he wasn't working, volunteering, or going to meetings, Mark loved watching baseball, going camping, traveling, learning about new technology, and hanging out with family and friends. Mark was a positive influence on everyone he met and never failed to make those around him laugh. He was a loving, devoted, and wonderful husband, father, and friend who will be missed immensely by his family and all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his mother Pauline Armijo, his father Elio Armijo, and his grandfather Jesse Lopez.

Mark is survived by his wife Melissa Armijo; daughter Aja Armijo; his daughter's boyfriend Jared Padilla; his son Christian Armijo; brother Adrian Armijo; his sister-in-law Gina Armijo; grandmother Ernestina Lopez; aunt Helen Lopez; uncles Robert, Leonard, Joe, Fabian, Jesse, Alex, and John Lopez; his mother-in-law MaryAnn Maestas; father-in-law Danny Pacheco; his sister-in-law Danielle Montoya; nephew/godson Max Montoya; sister-in-law Nicole Garcia; nephew/godson Nickholas Young; niece Claudia Young; godson Luc Valdez; and numerous cousins, great aunts and uncles, and so many friends who were like family.
