Mary Wilson Obituary

Wilson, Mary Margaret

Mary Wilson, 89, beloved Aunt and Sister-in-Law, was called to her eternal resting place on October 26, 2016.

She entered this world in the 1920's in Claremont, NH, born to William and Annie Wilson.

She was pre-deceased by her mother and father; her brothers, William Wilson and Lawrence Wilson; her Aunt Helen Gaffney whom she always called Beege; and her niece-in-law, Catherine Wilson.

She is survived by her nephews William, Michael, Stephen, and Thomas, her nieces Linda, Patricia Withaus, and Sharon Wilson, as well as her sisters-in-law, Leona Wilson and Evelyn Wilson. She leaves behind a host of beloved friends in Albuquerque, around the country and throughout the world

She first came to Albuquerque in 1958. She absolutely fell in love with the area and subsequently made it her home.

She first worked at Allied Research and when that contract ran out, she loved the area so much that she stayed on and went to First National Bank as an executive secretary which was followed by work at Duke City Lumber Company, Dikewood Corporation, Lloyd McKee Dodge, before retiring from Sandia National Laboratory in the 1990's.

In her early career she also started and was president of her own car-leasing company.

For over 20 years Mary presented an evening program every semester to students of world religions at the University of New Mexico. Together with close friends from the Sai Baba community, they explained and demonstrated Hindu practices of worship. Mary began and led a long-term study group on the Bhagavad Gita, held devotional services at her home for over 30 years, and was a member of an interfaith organization. Her knowledge of Hinduism was profound; she travelled to India and was considered a teacher. Mary took vows of renunciation with Swami Chidananda of The Divine Life Society in Rishikesh, India, and was given the spiritual title of Swami Prasanthananda by him.

She was made Juez Comisionado on the Executive Staff of the State of New Mexico by Governor Jerry Apodaca on January 17, 1978, for a two year term. The Juez Comisionado is a carryover from the days of the Spanish Empire and translates to the NM Judicial Council that oversaw the courts and made recommendations at that time. Mary always loved working for the fair and ethical treatment of all beings.

A special memory her friend Cory Hillyer has of Mary is when they attended a Balloon Glow for World Peace very early on New Year's Day in 1986. It was Mary's idea they go together and was a beautiful time they shared.

The Celebration of Life service and Bhajan for Mary will be November 6th at the home of Ajay and Rajul Gupta, 4912 Cielo Ct. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87111, at 1:00 pm. Please call Cory at 505-480-5941 if you have not already given an RSVP.

Mary was my Godmother. She was verywise and always taught me a lot of things from using a canopener that lost its sharpness to life survival skills when I got really lost in its hurdles. My fondest memory of her was her getting me ready for prom. She was the only one who could curl my hair all the way from top (scalp) to bottom (long curls). In fact, I got many compliments on that night thanks to her. She was so proud of me when I graduated and didnt hesitate to express it. I will always remember her fondly. I know you are reading this from heaven, aunty (cultural term for others reading confused), I hope my actions here on earth make you proud until I have completed my life's purpose here on earth and am able to join you in heaven.
Love,
Tina
