It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Michael Mazzella on November 9, 2024, at the age of 62.
Michael was much more than a father he was a best friend, a loving brother, a dedicated uncle, and a person whose warmth and kindness left a lasting impact on everyone he encountered. Born in Long Island, New York, Michael grew up with a fierce passion for football. His love for the sport was more than just a game; it was a defining part of who he was. He played with intensity and determination. His commitment, strength, and teamwork on the field carried over into his professional life as a successful insurance agent for nearly 30 years. Michael always treated his clients like family, ensuring they felt valued and cared for.
Michael cherished his relationships deeply, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. He is survived by his children, Nicholas and Christina Mazzella; his grandson, Kaeden; and five siblings-Anne, Jeanne, Patti, Maria and Frank.
To celebrate the life of Michael, the family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations are made to the Football Enhancement Fund: to support UNM Athletics. Memorial contributions can be made online at

I was shocked to learn my little brother Michael pasted. I shall miss Michael very much. He was a wonderful man most of all.

I was so sorry to hear of Mike´s passing. Although I had only seen him a few times in the last 40+ years, I remember being great friends when we were kids, and running around with him in the old neighborhood. When I moved away, he gave me his favorite leather hat that I cherished for a long time! My heart is with his family and friends at this time.
