Sam Baca Obituary
It is with great sadness that the family of Sam Baca announces his passing after a brief illness on Dec. 10th, 2017 at the age of 78 yrs.
The beloved Husband, Father, Brother, Uncle, Grandfather, and Coach was called to his eternal resting place. He entered this world on September 26th, 1939 in Albuquerque, NM, the son of Petra Romero-Ipiotis and James Ipiotis.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years Lorraine Baca; sister Viola Montoya; daughter, Jennifer Baca-Morris; son, Leo Baca; granddaughters: Adriana Baca, Jasmine Morris, Tamara Morris and Mercedes Morris; grandson Nathanial Morris Jr. and son-in-law's, Nate Morris and Donny White as well as his beloved nieces and nephews and a host of many players. Sam honored his country as he served in the Marines.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 15th, 2017, 11:00 am. at French Mortuary, 9300 Golf Course Rd NW, Albuquerque, NM 87114.

This coach was the greatest of all of my coaches and I had many. He knew basketball well, he also knew what was real for younger athletes and tried to prepare them for what was ahead. I respected him then, 8th grade, and now 50 years or more later, even more. My condolences to all his family, he will be missed I am sure.

As a young man at St. Mary's I was fortunate to have been coached by Sam Baca. He taught me that staying focused and making a maximum effort will make you a Champion. What he taught me served me well in my career working in Corporate America.
