Stephen Geis Obituary

Stephen R. Geis

Stephen R. Geis, born August 22, 1959, passed away on June 16, 2025. He is survived by his daughter Mary (husband Matt); his parents Robert and Anna Mae Geis; uncle Robert Rey; sisters Robin (husband Bill) and Gayle (husband Dan); nieces Amanda, Miranda, and Camille; and grandnephews Jackson and Grant.

Steve was preceded in death by his grandparents Walter and Catherine Geis, and Marcial and Aurelia Rey.

Steve graduated from St. Pius X High School in 1977. He worked for the City of Albuquerque for decades. Sports was Steve's life. He refereed basketball in his free time. He played basketball in city leagues and national tournaments. In 1998, his team won his division's 3-on-3 Hoop It Up title.

Steve will be remembered as a lifelong Los Angeles Lakers, San Francisco Giants, Miami Dolphins, and most of all, University of New Mexico Lobos fan. On weekends, he could be found discussing sports with his senior sports club and watching football, basketball, softball, or volleyball at UNM.

During his recent illness, his closest friends and family visited him often. Thank you to Richard Wing, Greg Lucero, David Mirabal, Greg Johnson, and Jade and Jesse Castello for the comfort they brought. Thank you, as well, to Gina Rivera, Kayla Coffey, Ann Sheriff, Carmen Moreno, and Legacy Hospice for the exceptional care provided to him. His family is eternally grateful.

A celebration of Steve's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, go to a Lobo game this fall and cheer for the Lobos!

I knew Stephen from Lobo Basketball at the PIT, later
I would see him At "Our Lady of the Assumption Church." We always spoke to one another and being
an usher on Sunday, I was always glad to see him.
My prayers for Stephen and family.
