Steve Gallegos Obituary

Steve Gallegos

Steve Edward Gallegos, 63, passed away peacefully at his home on November 23, 2021, in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Steve was a devoted Christian, whose faith in God was often exhibited through his compassionate spirit.

Steve was born on May 23, 1958, in Encino, New Mexico to his loving parents, Antonio & Mary "Josie" Gallegos (Bachicha). Steve graduated from Highland High School in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1977. He went on to obtain various Associate Degrees from New Mexico State University- Dona Ana Community College, to include Secretarial Administration, Applied Science in Automotive Technology, and Accounting. At the time of his death, Steve was pursuing another degree from DACC in Medical Coding and Billing while also working at Tresco Inc. as a Lead Worker. His ongoing desire to learn and apply the skills that he was taught never ceased, even at the time of his passing. Steve utilized these skills while working in various departments at NMSU, which included the Physical Science Laboratory, Physical Plant Department, Special Events Department, Agricultural Department, and NMSU Library. He will be remembered for his elegant penmanship, organization, keen attention to detail, and persistent attitude. Steve was an avid Dallas Cowboys and New Mexico State Aggies fan and would often attend various NMSU sporting events along with his best friend and youngest son, Ezekiel Gallegos. Steve will be best remembered by those that knew him for his love, leadership, selflessness, and witty remarks. At the drop of a dime, Steve would constantly go out of his way to help others that were in need, while never asking for anything in return.

Steve is survived by his loving children, Estevan Gallegos (Janice Segura) of Albuquerque, NM, Joseph Gallegos (Amanda) of Fort Belvoir, VA, Amy Garcia (Shaquille Douglas) of Phoenix, AZ, and Ezekiel Gallegos of Las Cruces, NM; grandchildren Ethan, Avery, and Gracelyn Gallegos, Zoe, Aliza, and London Garcia, step grandchildren RJ & Serenity Segura, and ex-wife of 26 years, Alice Gallegos. Also left to mourn his loss are seven brothers and sisters: Antonio "Boy" (Estelle) Gallegos of Los Lunas, NM, Victor (Lori) Gallegos of Albuquerque, NM, Faviana "Fabby" Pettus of Albuquerque NM, Maria Jarecki of Charleston, SC, Joanne Gallegos of Las Cruces, NM, Bernadette Gallegos of Albuquerque, NM, and Emily Montano (Anthony) of Albuquerque, NM. He is also survived by a number of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, as well as twin grandsons, Bram & Kopeland Gallegos.

Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Baca's Funeral Chapel of Las Cruces, 300 E. Boutz Road, (575) 527-2222. A celebration service will take place in Albuquerque, NM at a later date.
