Tony Lovato Obituary
Tony G. Lovato
Tony G. Lovato, born Antonio Lovato on June 14, 1933, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, passed away on August 28, 2025. He was the beloved husband of 52 years to Marilyn, a proud father to Jerry, Lorrie, Sherri, David, and Leslie, and a cherished grandfather to Scout, Keely, Sydnie, Sadie, Ryan, Emily, and Alex. He also grew up surrounded by a large and loving family, the son of Tiburcio and Genarita, with twenty siblings who helped shape his early years in the Barelas neighborhood.
From boyhood, Tony learned the value of hard workwhether picking onions, shining shoes, or playing guitar for tipsand he carried that ethic throughout his life. After serving in the U.S. Army as a fingerprint specialist, Tony worked for the City of Albuquerque for 27 years, retiring as Assistant Personnel Director. He was especially proud of his role in the landmark case Tony G. Lovato v. City of Albuquerque, which upheld constitutional protections for employees.
Music was Tony's true heartbeat. For more than 50 years, he played guitar with the Bourguet Brothers, traveling across New Mexico and beyond, filling dance halls and festivals with music and joy. At home, he brought that same joy through food, laughter, and a home filled with warmth. He and Marilyn loved traveling, weekends at the horse tracks, and time spent with family and friends.
A lifelong railbird, Tony found camaraderie and friendship at the Downs and built a thirty-year bond with his dear friend Dr. Gherardi. He often saw himself in his favorite horse, "Little Pinch," steady, determined, and always showing up when it mattered most.
Above all, Tony's pride shone brightest in his grandchildren's liveswhether in their academic achievements, college milestones, or their victories on the soccer field, volleyball court, or baseball diamond. He celebrated their efforts with a smile and dimples that said it all.
The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to Seana and the team at Roadrunner Home Health, whose compassionate care and tireless efforts kept Tony mobile and comfortable until the end. Their kindness will always be remembered.
Tony will be remembered as a husband, father, grandfather, brother, musician, and friend whose music, work, and love left an indelible mark. His laughter, kindness, and songs will echo in the hearts of all who knew him.
