Wilma Cox Obituary

Wilma Louise Cox

Wilma Louise Cox (Nano) was called to be with our Lord Jesus on April 10, 2023. A devoted mother and grandmother who never missed an athletic event, school function or recital. She is survived by her son, Quintin, and his wife, her daughter-in-love, Ruth; her beloved grandchildren, Jory and Cassidy; her baby brother, Richard Winn; several nephews and nieces, and close friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Finis Cox; mother, Carrie Winn; father, Jackson Winn; and sister, Jaqueline Wood Newton.

Wilma was born in Columbia, Missouri, on June 22, 1931. The family relocated to Albuquerque in 1943 due to her sister's severe asthma. She graduated from La Mesa School as Valedictorian in 1945 and attended Albuquerque High School and graduated in 1948. Wilma then went to work for the State of New Mexico, Employment Security Division, where she started as an administrative secretary and retired in 1986 as the supervisor of the tax section.

In 1951, Wilma met and married the love of her life, Finis, and they were married until Finis died in 1992. Wilma and Finis were confirmed at and became life-long members of Immanuel Lutheran Church in 1965. She loved Immanuel and volunteered in the church office from 1986 until 2022. She also had a love for dogs and enjoyed watching all the birds and hummingbirds at the bird bath and feeders in her backyard.

Wilma led a selfless life and served the Lord until she was called home. She will be missed by those who loved her and those she loved, including her immediate and extended families, friends, and her church family.

A memorial service to celebrate Wilma's life is scheduled on Sunday, April 30, 2023, at 2:00 p.m., at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 300 Gold Avenue, SE, Albuquerque, New Mexico, with Rev. Dustin Kear officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family will appreciate memorials in her name to Immanuel Lutheran Church and School.
