Allan James Picard

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 17, 2021 at a 1:00 p.m. Liturgy of the Word in Evangeline Memorial Gardens Chapel in Carencro for Allan James Picard, age 73, who passed away Saturday, March 13, 2021 at Courtyard Manor Nursing Home in Lafayette. Interment will be in Evangeline Memorial Gardens in Carencro. Deacon Cliff Tanner will officiate at the services. Readers will be Britt Dugas, Kobe Vicknair, and Brandi Dugas. Musical selections will be Go Rest High on that Mountain, Proud to be an American, Amazing Grace, and The Old Rugged Cross. Mr. Picard was a native and lifelong resident of Lafayette. A veteran of the United States Navy, he served 8 years of active duty and 22 years in the Army Reserves. During his time in the Army, he fought in the Vietnam Era and participated in Desert Storm. He also was the Commander of American Legion Post 241 in Carencro and of the Department Executive Committee (D. E. C.) of Area G. He was employed with the department of Army Aviation Flight Facility in Lafayette retiring in 1995 and with Louisiana Limousines in Lafayette for 14 years. He was a parishioner of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Scott. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Barbara Roger Picard of Lafayette; one son, Paul Louis Picard and his companion, Karen Broussard, of Lafayette; two daughters, Gloria Picard and her husband, Glenn Menard of Carencro and Jessica Picard of Lafayette; nine grandchildren, Melissa Meche and her husband, Adam, Britt Dugas, Brandi Dugas, Lee-Allan Dugas, Kobe Vicknair, Gabriel Vicknair, Zachary Vicknair, Hunter Vicknair, and Michael Dugas; great grandchildren, Forest Bourque, Malaina Dugas, Patrick Dugas, and one on the way, Daxton Allan; and one sister, Nona Faye Hardy and her husband, Dave, of Breaux Bridge. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Dallas Picard and the former Lillian Ewing; and one brother, Glenn Joseph Picard. The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. Tuesday and will continue from 8:00 a.m. until service time on Wednesday. Pallbearers will be Michael Dugas, Lee-Allan Dugas, Hunter Vicknair, Zachary Vicknair, Dane Hardy, and Adam Meche. Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Picard, Glenn Menard, Kobe Vicknair, Gabriel Vicknair, Forest Bourque, Dave Hardy, Shawn Hardy, and his future great grandson, Daxton Allan.
