Dr. George Pang Obituary

Memorial Services will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, September 9, 2023 in Delhomme Funeral Home - Lafayette for Chour "George" Chi Pang, 85, who passed away on August 18, 2023. Born in Taiwan, Dr. Pang attended National Taiwan University before coming to the US for a doctorate in the emerging field of microwave technology at the University of Colorado, Boulder. After a summer job at the National Bureau of Standards, Dr. Pang accepted a job as an assistant professor in electrical engineering at the University of Southwestern Louisiana in 1968. During his 25-year teaching career, Dr. Pang was known as an excellent teacher with high standards. If you made an 'A' in his class, that meant something. After retiring in 1993, Dr. Pang continued to teach seniors computer literacy at the Green House in Lafayette, where he met his wife, Lilly June Montgomery Pang. Dr. Pang and June Pang had 23 happy years together. They spent time with friends and visited Dr. Pang's two daughters and grandchildren in California. Dr. Pang continued to fix people's computers and help fellow seniors navigate the world wide web. Dr. Pang is survived by his wife, Lilly June Pang; by his two daughters, Janice Pang and Lisa Pang, both of San Jose, California; four grandchildren; brothers Johnny Pang (Judy) and Billy Pang (Brenda); sister Leah Hsieh (Wendell); nephew Bob Pang; and a host of nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Fen Kao and Yin Pang. His family and friends will miss his steadfast kindness and gentle humor. Donations may be made online in memory of Dr. Pang to the College of Engineering at the University of Louisiana, Lafayette, where he taught for many years. Personal condolences may be sent to the Pang family at: www.delhommefuneralhome.com.

Dr. Pang served as a professor while I was Dean of Engineering at UL. In addition to being an
outstanding professor, he was a pleasure to know, with a friendly personality and a big smile. The students loved him. We will miss him. I offer condolences to friends and family.
