Richard Gilger Obituary

Pete was truly a devoted husband, Dad and Grandad. Memorial Services Celebrating the life of Richard "Pete" Gilger will be held on Thursday, August 2, 2018, at First Baptist Church of Lafayette, 1100 Lee Avenue Lafayette, LA. The family request that visitation be observed beginning at 9 am until time of services at 10:30 am. Pastor Steve Horn will officiate the services. Immediately following Memorial Services full Military Honors will be rendered. He was born December 10, 1932, to C.C. and Mable Gilger in Ingalls, Kansas. He entered into eternal rest on Saturday, July 28, 2018, at his residence surrounded by his family. Pete was a Korean Veteran serving four years in the U.S. Air Force as a Staff Sargent. He was stationed on Okinawa for two years and went on flying missions over North Korea. He was ordained a Deacon in the First Baptist Church of Thornton, Colorado and served as a choir member, Sunday School Teacher and Treasure in several churches. Pete loved the Lord and enjoyed reading Gods word. He was a devoted Follower of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. His hobbies included flying his ultra-light airplane and building a flight simulator. Pete is survived by his wife of 63 years Mary Ann Slocum Gilger; two sons Rick Gilger and wife Mary of Wood Forest, Texas, and Wayne Gilger and wife Paulette Gilger of Broussard, LA; two sisters Helen Glenn of Las Vegas, NV, and Pat Dodge of Pinetop, AZ; four grandsons, Michael Gilger & wife Megan, of Traverse City, MI, Ryan Gilger and wife Eduarda of Atlanta, GA., Dillon Gilger and Dustin Hyatt of Lafayette, LA; three great-grandchildren, Hays Gilger, Molly and Noah Hyatt. Pete was preceded in death by his mother and father C.C. and Mable Gilger; brothers Dr. Art Gilger and Jim Gilger; sisters Elsie Gilger and Ruth Davis. Our greatest thanks to Community Hospice for the greatest care anyone could receive. A wonderful group. I didn't know Mr. Pete for a long time but I knew him long enough to know what kind of man he was. RIP Mr. Pete
