A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, October 12, 2021, at 11:00 am at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette, Louisiana for Sherwood Bell, 74, who passed away Tuesday, October 5, 2021, at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette, LA. Masks are required for gatherings in the funeral home and cemetery. Visitation will be observed at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette on Tuesday, October 12th, from 10:00 am until the time of service. Sherwood was born on April 6, 1947, in Waco, TX and was a long-time resident of Las Vegas, NV. He graduated from George Washington Carver High School, Class of 1965 and attended Prairie View A & M University in Prairie View, TX. A proud veteran, Sherwood served as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force. Decorated for honorable service, Sherwood earned the Air Force Good Conduct Medal with one Silver Oak Leaf Cluster, the National Defense Service Medal, an Air Force Overseas Long Tour Ribbon with one Oak Leaf Cluster, an Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon with three Oak Leaf Clusters, the Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Military Education Graduate Ribbon and the Air Force Training Ribbon. He was honored to serve our nation and retired after 20 years. Sherwood was inducted into the Nevada National Broadcasting Hall of Fame. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and would not miss watching a football game. Known as the "Quiet Storm", Sherwood played jazz, laid back and easy listening music genres. Most of all, he loved to spend time with his family and friends and will be deeply missed. Sherwood is survived by the love of his life whom he met on his first assignment, his beloved wife of over 40 years, Patricia Ann Dixon Bell, of Rayne; his only daughter, Arlevia Bell, of Douglasville, GA; a nephew, Benjamin F. Hughes, III; four nieces, Sallie M. Gilbert, Mamie King, Laura Williams, all of Waco, TX and Krystal Dixon, of Lafayette as well as numerous friends. He was preceded in death by his father, John Burgess; his mother, Arlevia Clay Perry; his eldest sister, Charlie Lee Hughes and his younger twin brother and sister, Myron Perry and Jacqueline Perry. The family wishes to thank The VA Heathcare Center of Lafayette, Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center of Lafayette's 3rd and 6th floor staffs, Lafayette Rehabilitation Hospital, Camelot Rehab at Magnolia Park, also of Lafayette and Senior Helpers Homecare of Lafayette for the compassionate care given to Sherwood and his family.
