Verna Mae Trahan Simon

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 9, 2021, at an 11:30 AM Mass of Christian Burial in St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Maurice, for Verna Mae Trahan Simon, 90, who peacefully passed away on Friday, November 5, 2021, at her residence in Lafayette. Visitation will be observed in Martin & Castille's Southside location on Monday, November 8, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and will continue Tuesday from 9:00 AM until time of services. A Rosary will be prayed on Monday evening at 6:30 PM in Martin & Castille Funeral Home led by Ryan Simon. Interment will be in St. Alphonsus Cemetery. Reverend Paul Bienvenu, Pastor of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Maurice, will conduct the funeral services. Survivors include her two daughters, Barbara Landry, of Lafayette and Brenda Campbell and her husband, Don, of Little Rock, Arkansas; one son, Darell Simon and his wife, Gwen, of Lafayette; eight grandchildren, Casey Simon, Ryan Simon, Cody Simon, Drew Simon, Amanda Daigle, Jamie Kubik, Chad Simon, and Alethea Barras; numerous great grandchildren; and two daughters-in-law, Michelle Simon, and Gwen David Simon. She was preceded in death by her husband, Loland Simon; two sons, Fred Simon, and Larry Simon; her parents, Clobule Trahan and the former Melanie Hebert; her sisters, Mable Simon, Helen Trahan, and Dorothy Baudoin; and a son-in-law, Nelson Landry. Ms. Verna Mae loved to cook, she was known as the Cajun Mama, cooking for many of her family and friends often during the holidays and family gatherings. She was the epitome of a mother figure, caring for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren; she loved most of all spending time with them. Verna Mae also enjoyed vacationing and traveling across the country with her husband, Mr. Loland.
