Marilyn Virginia Melton Griggs

Marilyn Virginia Griggs June 4, 1942 – May 15, 2025 Marilyn Virginia Griggs, 82, passed away peacefully on May 15, 2025, at her home in Hernando, Mississippi. Born June 4, 1942, in Brazil, Mississippi, Marilyn was known affectionately to all as "Mimi" or "Lady." She possessed the remarkable gift of making everyone feel like family guided by her faith and genuine love for people. Marilyn was a devoted member of the Enid Church of Christ. She found joy in spending time with her loved ones, reading her bible, and even occasionally enjoyed evenings watching professional wrestling or football. Her playfulness and sense of humor made her especially adored by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who treasured every moment with their Mimi. She is survived by her children, Greg Townsend, Cissy Garrett (Greg), Ray Griggs (Mary Ann), Mary Jo Red (Jerry) and Bill Griggs (Janet); brother Richard Melton (Campbell); as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joe Griggs; her parents, Myrtha Florence Prine and Garland G. Melton; and siblings, Lois Evelyn Swindoll, Linda Lane Ward, Charles G. Melton, Carl Campbell, Owen Campbell and Garland Melton. The visitation will be held Monday, May 19, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Memorial Funeral Home in Tunica, MS, with a funeral following at 11:00 a.m. There will be a private burial at Oakwood Cemetery following the funeral services. Memorial Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. The family finds comfort in 2 Timothy 4:7-8: I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day - and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.
