Aaron Funner Obituary

Aaron Funner, 84, passed away on July 17, 2013 at his home in Reno, Nevada. Al owned and operated Al's East 5th Service at 5th and Ingra. During winters Al also operated a "Wrecker". Al then worked for Yellow Cab garage behind the Old Black Angus at Fireweed and Spenard. This is where Al first acquired the skills of radiator repair. There Al longed for a shop of his own. Within a few short years Spenard Radiator was no longer a dream but a reality come to fruition through hard work. Al worked many locations through the years; the old fire station at Spenard and 29th, the gas station near the Norge Laundry at Chugach Way, also the Quick Lube off Old Seward Hwy, and last on A St. off of 64th Ave. His sons all spent time at "The Shop" with Al apprenticing Jimmie to carry on the family business. Al handed the keys to Jimmie in 1987 and moved his wife and daughters to Reno, NV where he claimed ownership of The Wonder Bar which he operated until he retired. Al loved boating, water-skiing, bowling, and beer. He was also quite the pool shark. He served in the military overseas in Korea with the US Army during peacetime. Al was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Louise; son, David Randall, and daughter, Judith Elaine. He is survived by his eldest son, Richard Alvin, wife, Mary, and their children, Michael and Victoria; his youngest son, Jimmie Michael, wife Laura and Jimmie and Tami Ochoa's children, Beau, Ashley and David; Judith's daughter, Tonya Rogers of Vancouver, WA and his youngest daughter, Kristina of Reno and her children, Louise, Haley and Marcos plus 6 great grandchildren. A celebration of life potluck will be held at his son Richard's home at 2111 Saratoga Avenue on Thursday August 15th at 6:00 p.m. All who knew him are welcome to attend.

Dear Richard, Jimmie, and Kristina,
So sorry for your loss! I met your mother bowling with the Hot Damns and then we would go eat egg rolls at the Hong Kong restaurant. We would let your dad tag along. Later we would head over to the Buckaroo Club for some beers. Loved your family... They will truly be missed!!

To The Funner Family:
Prayers are the stairs we must climb every day if we would meet God there is no other way for we learn to know God when we meet him in prayer and ask him to lighten your burden of care...
Sometimes mere words just aren't enough to take away our grief so we rely on God for help and strength in our belief. May God uplift you gently take the sorrow that you bear then comfort you with healing in the safety of his care....

I'm so sorry to hear about Al's passing. I babysat all the kids when they were young and then Louise babysat my oldest daughter in 1973 for a while for me. They were a great couple and I remember how crowded it was in the little house on Oregon Drive before the move to the West High are and before you left Alaska. I remember his great smile and laugh. Rest in Peace Al.
